If Weah, ever chosen by FIFA to win the best player in the world, he will not be the first famous leader of his country. Current President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

The 51-year-old Weah has been active in politics as senator of the opposition party Democratic Change since 2015. In 2005, he lost Sirleaf's presidential election.

'King George', as the soccer player is called by his followers, is especially popular with the youth in the slums. Many of them think they have not benefited from the recovery of their country after a bloody 15 year civil war. Just before the end of the civil war, Johnson Sirleaf, a financial expert, received the peace prize.
