athens, greece - Greek hotel owners may soon fill their pools with salty seawater, raising concerns about potential sewage contamination.

New Regulation on Sea Water Usage in Pools

Greek hotel owners will be allowed to fill their pools with salty seawater instead of fresh water due to severe droughts in the country. The Greek Minister of Tourism, Elena Rapti, aims to address the water supply challenges faced during peak tourist seasons.

However, the upcoming regulations are not mandatory, giving hotel owners the option to easily switch to seawater. One proposal suggests installing pipelines along the coast to directly pump seawater from the sea. Critics warn about potential environmental damage from water pumping and express concerns about sewage contamination risks.
