Volunteers stay with Thai boys in cave, if necessary four months

bangkok - Two doctors of the Thai navy have offered to stay with the boys in the cave, even though the heavy rainfall may take up to four months before the team can leave the cave.

The boys are weakened and severely emaciated. At this moment even standing up is a challenge because the muscle mass after nine days without food is significantly reduced. Mentally, however, it seems good to go with the teenagers.

Experts still have doubts about what exactly needs to be done. At the moment, three options seem to be considered, a member of the rescue team reports to The Guardian. Diving would be preferable because the boys can quickly leave the cave and the expected heavy rainfall will not have to wait.

Because they can not swim or dive- they must first get a dive training- and are physically not very strong, the trip through the dark cave can be dangerous. The risk of children being panicked or having an accident is great.

Another option is to pump water out of the cave at lightning speed. However, the question is whether this will work out. Heavy rainfall is expected within two days. This would also mean that the boys have to stay in the cave for up to four months until the rainy season is over. If the experts choose option three, then the football team is not only there for the doctors and they have enough to eat.

The team went into the cave ten days ago to leave their name on the wall, a kind of local ritual. They left their backpacks and shoes behind and therefore had no food with them. The young people survived according to a doctor by staying in their place and drinking water that dripped from stalactites.
