quito - The Vice President of Ecuador was sentenced to a six-year prison sentence on Wednesday. He was on trial for accepting bribes from the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.

According to the BBC, until now, Glas is the most important politician convicted in the large corruption case around the company Odebrecht. The Brazilian company has admitted that it has paid almost 788 million dollars (666 million euros) in bribes in 12 different countries. A former CEO stated in October that the company paid 35 million dollars (29.5 million euros) in bribes to Venezuelan President Maduro.
