athens - Jose Ibarra, a Venezuelan migrant, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the United States for the high-profile murder of student Laken Riley. The case sparked reactions from political figures like President-elect Donald Trump and current President Joe Biden.

Jose Ibarra, a 26-year-old Venezuelan migrant, has been found guilty of killing student Laken Riley in the United States. The murder took place in February while Riley was out for a run. Authorities were able to link DNA found under her nails to Ibarra. Trump, during his election campaign, highlighted the fact that Ibarra had entered the US illegally.

Prosecutors stated that Riley was killed while resisting a rape attempt. Family members of Riley reacted emotionally to the verdict in the court in Athens, Georgia. Trump, on his platform Truth Social, expressed his satisfaction with the guilty verdict and hoped it would bring some peace to Riley's family. Biden referenced Riley by name in his annual State of the Union address after a Republican lawmaker interrupted his speech demanding to 'use her name'.
