caracas - The regime of the Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro has released about forty political prisoners under certain conditions. Among them is an ex-mayor, Daniel Ceballos, who was imprisoned since 2014 for inciting violent protests.

In the country of 30 million inhabitants destitute of mismanagement, an estimated 675 people are detained for political reasons, including leaders of the opposition. The unpopular Maduro was re-elected on May 20 in a ballot box that was internationally regarded as completely unfair.
