vatican city - Vatican issues update on Pope Francis' health, stating he has a complex clinical condition and will remain in the hospital longer than expected.

Vatican's Announcement on Pope Francis' Health

Vatican has released a statement regarding the health of Catholic leader Pope Francis, who was hospitalized due to bronchitis. Tests indicate a complex clinical condition requiring an extended hospital stay.

Speech Difficulties

Pope Francis, who suffered from bronchitis during public events on February 9 and 12, struggled to breathe and had difficulties speaking. He had to have his aides read his speeches.

Previous Hospitalizations

This is not the first time Pope Francis has been hospitalized at Gemelli Hospital. In 2023, he had two hospitalizations, one for shortness of breath and the other for a procedure to place a prosthesis in his abdomen. In 2021, he underwent surgery for a colon condition.
