santo domingo - A plane belonging to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was seized by the US in the Dominican Republic, marking the second seizure in six months.

US Seizes Maduro's Plane Again

For the second time in six months, the United States has seized a plane belonging to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during his visit to the Dominican Republic, was filmed placing a 'seized' sticker on the Venezuelan aircraft. The first plane confiscated also occurred in the Dominican Republic where both aircraft were undergoing maintenance. The US claims that Venezuela's acquisition of these planes violates American sanction policies, prompting Washington to request the Dominican Republic to hold the aircraft. In September, the first plane was seized, and now permission was granted for a second seizure.

The aircraft in question this time is a Dassault Falcon 200, used by members of Maduro's government for travel to countries including Greece, Turkey, Russia, and Cuba.

Rubio reiterated last week that the US does not acknowledge Maduro's victory in the summer's presidential elections, citing claims of fraud by the opposition. A special envoy from President Donald Trump recently traveled to Venezuela to hold discussions with Maduro, returning with six Americans who were detained in the South American country.
