US Judge Halts Trump's Transgender Military Ban

A US judge has temporarily blocked President Trump's order excluding transgenders from military service. The decree is being legally challenged by twenty current and future military personnel.

Judge Ana Reyes stated that Trump's January 27 order is likely unconstitutional due to sex discrimination. She highlighted the irony of denying transgender individuals equal protection rights after their sacrifices for the country.

The military announced on February 11 that it would no longer allow transgender individuals to enlist and would cease gender transition-related procedures. Subsequently, they planned to discharge transgender members, a decision now on hold.

The US military comprises about 1.3 million active-duty personnel, with estimates of 15,000 transgender service members, though officials claim the number is lower.
