buenos aires - The US is threatening sanctions against Venezuela's petroleum industry. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson stated that such measures are being considered because the country is slipping further and further into a dictatorship.
The minister made the statements in Argentina where he was visiting. 'We can no longer watch the collapse of Venezuelan democracy passively,' he said. So far, the US has only issued sanctions against individuals. America is by far the largest buyer of oil from Venezuela.
That country is in a political and economic crisis with sky-high inflation and a lack of foreign currency. Venezuela can hardly buy food and medicines abroad.
