washington - The US government will pay $5 million to the family of Ashli Babbitt, a Trump supporter shot dead during the Capitol riot in 2021.

US Government to Compensate Family of Capitol Riot Victim

The American government has agreed to pay $5 million to the relatives of Ashli Babbitt, who was fatally shot by the police during the 2021 Capitol riot.

Capitol Riot Incident

Ashli Babbitt, 35, was among the Trump supporters who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to overturn Joe Biden's election victory following baseless claims of election fraud by Trump.

She was shot in the shoulder by a police officer as she climbed through a broken window deep inside the Capitol after repeated warnings.

Trump's Response

Former President Trump hailed Babbitt as a martyr and, at the start of his second term in January, granted clemency to all those arrested during the riot.
