le haut vernet - French investigators have discovered two unknown human DNA traces in the investigation into the death of Émile, a 2-year-old boy who went missing in the summer of 2023.

French investigators have discovered two unknown human DNA traces in the investigation into the death of Émile, a 2-year-old boy who went missing in the summer of 2023, in Le Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence). His body was found in March after a months-long search, but the mystery surrounding his death persists.

A month ago, it was revealed that forensic analysis had uncovered DNA not belonging to Émile's family. Now, according to RTL France sources, it appears that there are not one, but two traces of unknown DNA.

The traces were found in small quantities, raising questions about their reliability for the investigation. Contamination cannot be ruled out as bones and clothing have been manipulated during various stages of the investigation.

Émile disappeared after eluding his grandparents' watchful eyes, triggering an extensive search effort that initially yielded no results. Even a reconstruction of the day he disappeared did not provide any leads until a hiker stumbled upon a skull and clothing remnants on March 30, 2024. Subsequent examination confirmed they belonged to the missing child, and further bone fragments were uncovered in the surrounding area in the following days.
