United States Rescues Freed American Tourist from Syria

washington - The US military has evacuated American tourist Travis Timmerman (29) from Syria.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, had previously stated that they were working on bringing Timmerman back. Timmerman, who hails from the state of Missouri, spoke to a CBS News reporter in Syria on Thursday, revealing that he had been freed earlier that week after being detained in prison. He admitted to entering Syria illegally seven months ago for Christian 'spiritual purposes'.

The White House was unaware of the American's detention in Syria until then. A spokesperson stated, 'We have just been informed and are currently working to confirm his identity.' Timmerman's family was also unaware of the situation. The US government is also searching for another American in Syria, journalist Austin Tice, who was kidnapped in Damascus back in 2012.
