'Unanimity' on North Korea sanctions policy

World June 14, 2018 14:36

beijing - North Korea only needs to rely on relief from international sanctions if it can demonstrate that all nuclear weapons have been dismantled. That said the American minister Mike Pompeo (Foreign Affairs), who said that China, South Korea and Japan support that position.

'These three countries all agreed that it is important that the current sanctions regime remains intact until the moment that the denuclearization is complete', said the minister during a visit to Beijing. He called it encouraging that the countries agree on that position.

The leaders of the United States and North Korea spoke about denuclearization this week in Singapore. It was agreed that the Kim Jong-un regime will work on 'the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula', without agreeing when exactly that goal should be achieved.
