- The UN nuclear agency calls for new negotiations between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un amidst concerns over North Korea's growing nuclear weapons program.

UN Calls for Resuming Talks on North Korea's Nuclear Program

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Chief, Rafael Grossi, urges the need for renewed discussions between former President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un to address the escalating nuclear threat posed by North Korea.

Concerns Over North Korea's Nuclear Arsenal

Grossi expressed worries about North Korea's nuclear ambitions, emphasizing the significant growth of its nuclear weapons program under Kim Jong-un since 2009. Reports suggest Pyongyang may already possess enough material for up to sixty nuclear warheads.

IAEA Findings on North Korea's Nuclear Facilities

The IAEA highlighted the existence of nuclear facilities in Yongbyon and Kangson, where uranium enrichment activities take place without proper oversight. Grossi also mentioned the construction of additional enrichment facilities, raising further concerns about the lack of security measures.

Call for Diplomatic Engagement

Grossi stressed the necessity of reopening dialogue with North Korea to address the security implications of its nuclear arsenal. Talks between the US and North Korea ceased during Trump's presidency, with no tangible progress achieved despite several meetings between Trump and Kim.

The IAEA Chief warned against ignoring the nuclear threat posed by Pyongyang, advocating for diplomatic solutions over military escalation. The international community faces challenges in dealing with North Korea's substantial nuclear capabilities, necessitating strategic dialogue.

Broader Nuclear Concerns

Aside from North Korea, Trump's focus on Iran's nuclear activities adds to global concerns. Analysts highlight the interconnected nature of nuclear proliferation involving countries like Russia, Belarus, and Iran, posing a direct threat to global stability.
