UK lifts sanctions on Syrian entities

The UK announced the removal of sanctions on 24 entities, including Syria's central bank, to support the country's reconstruction process. The decision applies to firms in energy, transportation, and finance sectors. However, hundreds of sanctions on individuals and entities remain in place.

Last month, UK Foreign Secretary Stephen Doughty mentioned that any changes in sanctions would aim to support Syria's reconstruction and promote security and stability. Doughty emphasized the UK's commitment to holding Bashar Assad and his associates accountable for their actions against the Syrian people. Sanctions such as asset freezes and travel bans on Assad regime members will continue to be enforced.
