naypyidaw - The death toll from the severe weather in northern Vietnam has risen to at least 82, following the passage of Typhoon Yagi, which also caused significant damage in Myanmar.

The death toll in Myanmar has increased to nearly 400 after the passage of Typhoon Yagi, which had caused widespread devastation in the country over a week ago. The storm had first made landfall in Vietnam, claiming more than two hundred lives.

The aftermath of the storm is still causing heavy rains and flooding in the region, with streets in the capital Hanoi being flooded. In Myanmar, the storm damage adds to the existing political turmoil in the country, following the military coup in 2021. The United Nations estimates that 887,000 residents of Myanmar have been affected by the storm.

According to a UN report, the areas affected by Typhoon Yagi have suffered severe damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, communication networks, schools, public facilities, and religious sites. Agricultural lands and crops have also been heavily impacted by the storm.

Typhoon Yagi is considered the most powerful storm to hit Asia this year. After making landfall in Vietnam with wind speeds of up to 149 kilometers per hour, the typhoon weakened to a tropical depression. Yagi had previously caused destruction in the Philippines and southern China, resulting in numerous fatalities in those countries as well.
