Two individuals have lost their lives and five others have been injured following the collapse of a highway under construction in South Korea. The incident occurred at a bridge being built near the city of Cheonan, south of Seoul.
Emergency services have reported that five of the injured individuals are in critical condition. Rescue operations are ongoing to locate a construction worker believed to be trapped under the debris.
The accident occurred on Tuesday morning when 50-meter-long metal support beams gave way. Video footage shared by South Korean broadcaster YTN shows sections of the bridge collapsing. The cause of the accident remains unclear.
