Turkish nationalists clashed

istanbul - The Turkish election campaign has become grim, now that physical attacks between political opponents are taking place.

While normally mainly the Kurdish party is regularly the victim of bullying and attacks by Turkish nationalists, and vice versa in the Kurdish region the Turkish parties have a hard time, this time Turkish nationalists have become victims of other Turkish nationalists.

Supporters of the right-wing nationalist MHP went to visit a stall of the Good Party (IYI-Parti) of Meral Aksener in Istanbul. Aksener himself comes from the MHP, but split from this and formed the Good Party last October.

In an attack by a large group of knives, armed MHP personnel, eight supporters of the Good Party were injured. They had to be treated in the hospital. Eight perpetrators have been arrested. The MHP has signed an election alliance with President Erdogan, while the Good Party of Aksener is fiercely opposed to Erdogan and has made an alliance with other opposition parties.

'Threats and attacks do not intimidate us. We will work with patience on the good and common sense of our country, which Turkey desperately needs, 'says Aksener. She is used to being opposed in all sorts of ways. It almost prevented her Good Party from taking part in the elections.

Thanks to the support of the secular opposition party CHP, she can still participate. The Good Party may become a surprise in the coming parliamentary elections. Meral Aksener is also the presidential candidate, but it will certainly be difficult for her to defeat the incumbent president Erdogan.

Another presidential candidate, Muharrem Ince of the CHP, condemned the attack on the followers of the Good Party.
