turkey, netherlands - Passengers on Turkish airlines face fines for standing up early after landing. Will similar measures be taken in the Netherlands? Airlines respond.

Turkish Airlines Introduces Fines for Early Seat Exit

Passengers on Turkish airlines risk fines if they stand up too early after landing. The new regulation, UOD-2025/01, aims to improve in-flight safety by ensuring passengers remain seated until the 'seatbelt' sign is off.

Penalties and Responses

Passengers who unfasten their seatbelts prematurely are considered 'unlawful passengers' and may face fines following reports to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. While Turkish airlines have tightened in-flight announcements, Dutch airlines like KLM and Corendon Dutch Airlines do not plan to adopt similar measures.

KLM spokesperson Anoesjka Aspeslagh stated that the issue is not relevant for them. Corendon Dutch Airlines is also evaluating the Turkish aviation authority's decision before considering any changes, emphasizing compliance with safety regulations.

Encouraging Compliance for Safety

Although passengers may wish to stretch their legs post-flight, safety protocols are essential. Standing prematurely poses risks to oneself and fellow passengers. Compliance with safety measures, including remaining seated until the 'seatbelt' sign is off, is crucial for in-flight safety.
