japan - Japanese authorities have issued a tsunami alarm following a strong earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter Scale. The earthquake occurred off the coast of Miyazaki prefecture in the Kyushu region of Japan.
After the earthquake off the coast of Miyazaki, waves of up to one meter high are possible.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) attributed the earthquake a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter Scale, at a depth of 11 kilometers.
Japan is situated at the intersection of several tectonic plates along the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it one of the countries with the highest seismic activity in the world.
