US President Donald Trump's appointed Middle East Special Envoy, Steven Witkoff, has started his work even before Trump takes office by beginning efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza. Witkoff mentioned that he believes they are on the brink of an agreement.

Speaking at a press conference at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, the American envoy stated, 'I am hopeful that we will have good things to announce on behalf of President Trump before the oath ceremony on January 20th.' He also emphasized their contribution to the negotiations in Doha, Qatar, and announced that he will be heading to Doha to participate in the talks. In an interview with Israeli television Kan, Witkoff expressed his expectation of concrete steps being taken to release hostages in Gaza before the presidential oath ceremony on January 20th. Meanwhile, Egyptian officials informed the al-Ahbar newspaper about the content of the talks held in Doha, stating that a ceasefire agreement lasting between 6 to 8 weeks is planned.
