Trump wants businessman as EU ambassador

washington - US President Donald Trump wants businessman Gordon Sondland to represent his country in Brussels. The Senate must still approve the appointment of the new ambassador, message news website Politico.

The United States has not been an EU ambassador for about a year and a half. The last diplomat in that post, Anthony Gardner, left in January 2017. A total of 44 of the 188 US ambassador posts in the world are currently vacant.

Sondland is the founder of Provenance Hotels. He previously resigned from Trump, but according to US media he transferred a million dollars to the inauguration committee of the president in 2017. The parents of the businessman fled from Nazi Germany prior to the Second World War.
