Trump Threatens 50% Tariffs on EU Goods
President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform, Truth Social, his intention to impose a 50% import tariff on European Union goods starting June 1st, due to stalled negotiations.
Apple Faces 25% Tariff Warning
Furthermore, Trump warned Apple of a 25% tariff if the company does not manufacture iPhones in the United States. Apple currently produces most of its iPhones in China and lacks smartphone factories in the US.
Trump's message to Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized the expectation for iPhones sold in the US to be produced domestically, threatening a 25% tariff if not complied.
Prior to this, Trump had urged Apple to halt factory construction in India for US-bound devices and encouraged shifting production to the US as the company moves away from China.
Impact on Trade Relations
The escalating trade tensions between the US and EU, as well as the warnings to Apple, mark a significant development in global trade dynamics.
