ukraine - US President Trump links military aid to Ukraine with access to rare earth minerals, sparking reactions from Ukrainian and Russian officials.

Trump's Proposal to Ukraine

US President Donald Trump has revealed his interest in Ukraine's rare earth minerals in exchange for continued military support amid the conflict with Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responds conditionally, stating that the rare minerals are already part of their victory plan and they are open to Trump's proposal if the US guarantees the protection of their underground resources. Trump suggests that Ukraine can operate the rare earth minerals in their country in exchange for the military equipment they request, emphasizing the importance of strengthening security through these elements.

Reactions and Statements

Russian officials criticize Trump's proposal, calling it a purely commercial approach. Zelensky highlights that Ukraine had previously included the issue of minerals in their victory plan and expects US support to safeguard their resources from falling into Russian hands. The Kremlin expresses disapproval, stating that the conflict in Ukraine is turning into a commercial transaction.

Rare Earth Elements in Ukraine

Ukraine is known for extracting 4 strategic rare earth minerals: Zirconium, Scandium, Beryllium, and most importantly, Lithium. The country's Lithium reserves are estimated at 500,000 tons and are crucial in industries such as aviation, nuclear technology, metallurgy, and electric vehicle manufacturing.
