Trump, Clinton on Super Tuesday

World March 1, 2016 06:21

- Voters in twelve US states go to the polls Tuesday to vote for their intended presidential candidate. Unless all recent polls are wrong, Donald Trump seems the Republicans to take a big step towards the nomination. On Democratic side, Hillary Clinton hopes her progressive opponent Bernie Sanders to administer the coup de grace. The first polling stations open in Vermont, from 11:00 Dutch time.

In almost all recent polls Trump goes over to cup: 17 percentage points in Alabama, 23 in Massachusetts and 18 in Tennessee. Senator Ted Cruz has the best credentials in his home state of Texas and Marco Rubio, the senator from Florida, is narrowly leading in Minnesota.

The electorate in the mostly southern states favor Clinton. Sanders won in Iowa and New Hampshire, two states with an almost exclusively white electorate. But in South Carolina, where a significant part of the Democratic rank and file is black, Clinton won no less than 73 percent of the vote.
