Trump can give himself amnesty

World June 3, 2018 16:33

washington - The American president Donald Trump can 'probably' grant amnesty, but does not intend to. That said Trumps lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who pointed out that the constitution does not prevent the president from using that power in itself.

Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, made the statements in interviews with US television channels. He told NBC that the presidential authority to grant people amnesty has no limitations. The lawyer also emphasized that it is unthinkable from a political point of view that a president should cancel his sentence. 'It would probably lead directly to his deposition,' Giuliani said.

The lawyer emphasized that the president 'did not do anything wrong' and that the amnesty is therefore not at issue. Special prosecutor Robert Mueller has indicated that he wants to hear Trump. He investigates, among other things, whether campaign staff from Trump conspired with the Russians in the run-up to the elections.
