canada, united states - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau rejects US President Donald Trump's suggestion of Canada becoming the 51st state of the US, emphasizing the importance of maintaining Canada's sovereignty and addressing trade issues.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has responded to US President Donald Trump's remarks suggesting that Canada should become the 51st state of the US, stating that this will not happen. Trudeau made this statement in an interview with CNN where he addressed Trump's reference to him as a 'governor'.

Trudeau emphasized that the main issue between the two countries revolves around trade policies, particularly customs duties. He highlighted that while the US can pose a threat to the Canadian economy, imposing additional tariffs that hinder Canadian products would also harm American consumers.

Trudeau stated, 'Canadians take great pride in being Canadian. One of the easiest ways to identify ourselves is by not being American. Any action taken by the US President to damage the Canadian economy will also hurt American consumers. I believe that we can achieve better outcomes by working together.'

US President Trump restated his previous comments about Canada becoming the 51st state of the US, questioning the annual loss of $200 billion to protect Canada. He expressed the view that the US has more than enough and does not need anything from Canada.
