stilfontein, south africa - Over a hundred miners have lost their lives in an abandoned South African gold mine after being trapped for months. The government labels them as criminals and refuses to provide assistance.

At least a hundred miners have tragically met their demise after being trapped for months in an abandoned South African gold mine. The remaining five hundred individuals are still underground, without any government assistance due to being labeled as criminals. The official stance is to 'smoke them out'.

Reports from sources like The Sun indicate that the miners were stuck in a deadlock with authorities cutting off their access to water, food, and supplies. Sabelo Mnguni, a spokesperson for the Mining Affected Communities United in Action Group (MACUA), stated that the miners perished due to dehydration and starvation.

As of now, around 18 bodies have been retrieved from the mine located in Stilfontein. Videos filmed by some rescued miners show numerous bodies wrapped in plastic. The surviving miners pleaded for help, while others appeared emaciated and shirtless.

Authorities allegedly blocked the miners' food and water supplies to force them out and make arrests for illegally entering the abandoned mine in search of gold remnants. This action is part of a longstanding campaign against illegal mining in South Africa. Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni previously mentioned, 'We do not send aid to criminals. They should not be assisted, but prosecuted. We did not send those people there.'

Magnificent Mndebele, spokesperson for MACUA, revealed that over 400 miners, two months post a clash with South African police, are still awaiting rescue. He mentioned that a pulley system used to lower supplies for the miners to escape was sabotaged, rendering their ascension impossible from the two-kilometer deep shaft.

The South African authorities are now on-site with equipment to prepare for a coordinated rescue operation, with a police spokesperson confirming the replacement of the community-installed pulley system with machinery utilized by mine rescue services. Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone stated that the final death toll remains unclear.
