- US President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, and raised tariffs on China to 20%.

Trump Intensifies Trade War with Tariff Decisions

US President Donald Trump has escalated trade tensions by imposing new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China. The decision to implement a 25% tariff on products from Canada and Mexico, and raise the tariff rate on Chinese goods to 20%, has sparked retaliatory measures from the affected countries.

Reactions from Canada, Mexico, and China

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to Trump's tariffs by announcing a 25% tariff on $155 billion worth of American products starting Tuesday. Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed 'patience and calm' in response to the US decision to impose a 25% tariff on Mexican imports.

China's Ministry of Commerce firmly rejected Trump's announcement, stating that they will take countermeasures against the additional tariffs imposed by the US.

Economic Impact and Global Markets

The announcement of new tariffs has already caused a negative impact on Asian markets, with Japan's Nikkei index dropping over 2% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index falling by 1.5% at the opening.

Economists warn that the tariffs could lead to increased consumer prices, negatively affecting growth and employment. The comprehensive tariffs on Canada and Mexico, especially in key sectors like automobiles and construction materials, pose a risk of cost increases for households.
