kruger national park, south africa - A 68-year-old tourist died in Kruger National Park, South Africa, after being trampled by elephants during a night walk. The incident adds to previous fatal encounters with elephants in the region.

Tourist Fatally Trampled by Elephants in Kruger National Park

A 68-year-old tourist visiting Kruger National Park in South Africa tragically lost her life after being trampled by a herd of elephants during a night walk. The incident occurred at the Sirheni Bushveld Camp where the woman was staying with her partner.

Details of the Incident

The unnamed woman ventured out alone for a walk late in the evening, encountering a herd of elephants with calves on a dark road outside the camp. The elephants panicked upon seeing her and charged, resulting in the fatal trampling. Park authorities confirmed her passing due to the injuries sustained.

Previous Elephant-Related Fatalities

This incident is not the first deadly encounter with elephants in South Africa. Earlier this year, a 59-year-old tourist lost his life in Kruger Park after being trampled by an elephant while protecting his grandchildren. Similarly, a Spanish tourist met a tragic end in Pilanesberg National Park last year after disregarding warnings and approaching a herd.

About Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park is known for its diverse wildlife, including elephants, lions, hippos, buffaloes, and leopards. Visitors are advised to exercise caution, especially during night walks, as wild animals may roam near the camp premises.

The African elephant, responsible for approximately 500 human fatalities annually in Africa, can weigh up to six tons, stand over four meters tall at the shoulder, and reach speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour.
