lyngen, noorwegen - Noorwegen tourist rescued alive after 7 hours buried under avalanche in Lyngen. Rescuer calls it a miracle. Scientist amazed by survival. Search ongoing for missing woman.

Tourist Survives 7-Hour Snow Avalanche Ordeal

A tourist in Noorwegen was found alive after being buried under a snow avalanche for seven hours in Lyngen. The man, aged between 40 and 50, was discovered conscious about 1.5 meters under the snow. The rescue was described as a miracle by the rescuers.

Remarkable Survival Against the Odds

  • Rescuer Kristian Midtgård and his dog Whiskey found the man alive, defying the odds of survival after being buried for so long.
  • Statistics suggest that most avalanche survivors suffocate within ten minutes, making this survival extraordinary.
  • Scientist Audun Hetland described the seven-hour survival as a rare occurrence in history, as most people do not survive being buried under snow for such a long duration.

Dramatic Rescue Mission

The man was part of a group of three foreign tourists on a skiing trip in an avalanche-prone area. One member was swept away by the snow into a fjord, where he managed to raise the alarm after reaching the shore. Search efforts are currently ongoing to find the third person, a woman.
