Top Gear star Richard Hammond, 55, announced yesterday in a statement that he is leaving his wife Mindy after 28 years. Hammond has reportedly been sleeping in a converted barn on the estate. Mindy is said to be interested in acquiring Bollitree Castle, a property in Herefordshire bought by the couple in 2008. The castle, dating back to the 18th century, is listed as a monument and boasts six bedrooms, a pool, and 20 hectares of land.
Speculation about an impending divorce persisted, prompting Hammond to release a statement. He was seen without his wife on New Year’s Eve, enjoying a pint of Guinness at a pub in Hereford. The Grand Tour presenter happily posed for selfies with fans at the Wye Inn, where onlookers noted his solo outing. Hammond's relationship struggles have been ongoing, with Mindy reportedly giving him a final chance eight years ago.
The couple's eldest daughter, 24-year-old Isabella, still resides at the castle and works with her father on The Grand Tour, a spinoff from Top Gear airing on Amazon Prime. Their youngest daughter, 22-year-old Willow, lives in Gloucestershire.
Mindy and Richard were featured on the TV show This Morning in 2017 after Hammond's second serious accident. Mindy expressed concerns over Hammond's risky behavior and the challenges they faced as a couple. Hammond's history of life-threatening accidents, including a 2006 crash during Top Gear filming, has taken a toll on his physical and mental health.
