antwerp - Belgian TV presenter Tom Waes was involved in a serious car accident, but miraculously survived. Here's what we know about the incident and his current condition.

Belgian TV presenter and actor Tom Waes was involved in a serious car accident in Antwerp, where he narrowly escaped a fatal outcome. The accident occurred on the Antwerp ring road as Waes was driving his vintage Porsche towards Gent. Despite the impact, Waes is currently conscious and breathing on his own, according to reports from VRT.

Witnesses saw Waes with friends at a restaurant near the Royal Museum of Fine Arts and later at a nearby cafe before he left for his home in Linkeroever. However, on the ring road, just before the Kennedy tunnel, Waes collided with a stationary text cart due to reasons that are still unclear.

Following the crash, Waes' car ended up on the middle lane, requiring assistance from road workers and emergency services. The incident also resulted in minor injuries to the driver of an adjacent parked vehicle.

Waes is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital in Antwerp, where he is stable and responsive. His family, including his partner Charlotte Vranken and children, rushed to his side after being notified by authorities.

Despite the initial seriousness of the situation, it was later confirmed that Waes was out of immediate danger. The family expressed relief after being able to communicate with him directly. The authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, including factors such as speed and possible influence of substances.
