- Three people died in three different snow avalanches in the Alps last weekend. The Swiss police announced this on Monday.

A 39-year-old Swiss skiing at the Hofathorn in the southern canton of Wallis was killed on Monday morning when he was dragged into an avalanche. He was soon found by friends but that was already too late. He died on the spot.

In Graubunden, in the west of the country, a 31-year-old French tourist wanted to climb the Glattwang mountain. In the morning he was still going skiing with his girlfriend.

In the afternoon he went alone. Later he was recovered in a ravine after being dragged away by an avalanche for over a kilometer.

Three soldiers were wounded in an avalanche in the southern canton of Wallis. The three were making a walk at 2700 meters altitude. One of three wounded, a 29-year-old Swiss, died in the hospital on Christmas Eve.
