beirut, lebanon - Preparations underway for the funeral of former Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah, expected to draw thousands in Beirut.

Preparations for Nasrallah's Funeral in Lebanon

Thousands are expected to attend the funeral of former Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah in Beirut tomorrow. The funeral, following Nasrallah's death in an Israeli airstrike on September 27, 2024, will be held at the main sports stadium Camille Chamoun. High-level officials from Iran are expected to attend the ceremony, with flights from Iraq to Beirut fully booked. The funeral is anticipated to halt daily life in the country for several hours, according to Al Jazeera. In addition to the funeral in Beirut, memorial ceremonies will also be held in Tehran and various cities in Iran.

Security Measures and International Participation

Hezbollah has announced tight security measures for the funeral and has called on security forces to assist in managing the influx of attendees from abroad. Hasan Nasrallah, who led Hezbollah for over thirty years, was temporarily buried next to his son Hadi, who died in 1997 while fighting for the group. Following the funeral, Nasrallah will be laid to rest in a location yet to be determined.

Assassination and Retaliation

Hasan Nasrallah, 64, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Hizbullah's main headquarters in Dahiyeh, southern Beirut, on September 27, 2024. The assassination was reportedly carried out using a 900kg Mark 84 series bomb of US origin. In retaliation, Iran launched approximately 200 missiles at Israel in October. Israel responded by targeting some Iranian military facilities.
