moscow - Russian opposition leader Alexej Navalni was sentenced to 30 days in jail by the judge. The Kremlin critic was found guilty of violation of the demonstration laws. As a result of this judicial decision, Navalni can not initiate a protest meeting against the pension reform in the coming month.

Navalni was arrested Saturday at his house in connection with the fact that a demonstration was to be held in Moscow at the end of January, although the authorities refused to give permission. The opponent of President Vladimir Putin is regularly put in chains because of his activities against the government.

Navalni said on Monday that this new conviction for something that happened more than half a year ago is purely intended to keep him out of the picture at the planned demonstration on 9 September. The Russians then take to the streets to show their aversion to the raising of the retirement age.
