The Netherlands establishes an international network against trafficking in human beings
new york - In the fight against human trafficking, the Netherlands is establishing an international network. Through contact between diplomats and other parties involved, money from human traffickers must be detected more quickly. The network must also encourage countries to freeze funds.
Minister Stef Blok (Foreign Affairs) announced the move in New York, where the Netherlands together with Libya and Niger organized a conference on the sustainable thwarting of human trafficking. The minister called on countries to address the international trafficking in human beings on migratory routes. He therefore insists on a full and unambiguous execution of the sanctions previously declared by the UN.
The Netherlands wants to investigate with other countries whether more human traffickers in Libya can be added to the sanction list, after punitive measures were imposed on six traffickers on Dutch initiative. 'That was just the beginning, it is now time that the sanctions really get their teeth. Serious human rights violations and dangerous migration with human traffickers must be stopped. I say to them: know that we have you in sight, 'says Blok.
As a result of the sanctions, traders are not allowed to leave their country and all countries have to freeze their assets.
