washington - Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency requests access to IRS data system for personal tax information.

Elon Musk's Taskforce Seeks Access to IRS Data System

Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has requested access to the highly secure IRS data system that houses personal tax information of millions of Americans, sources tell US media.

The system, known as the Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS), is used by IRS employees to view tax information, input transaction data, and make adjustments. It contains financial information of taxpayers, businesses, and NGOs in the United States.

Access to this system is extremely limited, and it is 'highly unusual' for politicians to gain access to taxpayers' personal data, according to The Washington Post. A Trump administration official stated that DOGE staff would need access because they are working on eliminating 'waste, fraud, and abuse' and 'improving government performance.' Additionally, through this access, they could 'better serve the population.'
