Taliban Bans Only Women's Radio Station in Afghanistan

The Taliban has further restricted women's freedom in Afghanistan by banning the only women's radio station in the country, Radio Begum in Kabul. The station, focused on women's education, had its activities suspended after a raid by Taliban agents on Tuesday.

Radio Begum, which used to broadcast six hours a day of educational content, including health, psychology, and spiritual programs for women, was targeted by the Taliban-led Ministry of Information and Culture. Agents seized computers, hard drives, files, and phones, and arrested two male employees, citing violations of broadcasting policies and misuse of the station's license.

In a country where girls are barred from attending high school, sister channels in Paris film online lessons covering a wider range of topics. The ban on the women's radio station is another move by the Taliban to curtail women's freedom in Afghanistan, where women are now prohibited from attending university, working, traveling without a male escort, or accessing public spaces.
