Syrian Refugee hailed as hero for stopping knife attacker in Hamburg

Muhammad al-Muhammad, a 19-year-old Syrian refugee, is being praised for his courageous act of stopping a knife-wielding woman at Hamburg's central station, preventing further harm to bystanders.

Heroic Intervention

On Friday evening, 18 people were injured when a 39-year-old woman, Lydia S., attacked people with a knife at the central station. The suspect, who had recently been discharged from a psychiatric hospital, is now back in psychiatric care.

Muhammad, who was on his way home after visiting a friend in the city, noticed the woman with a knife and saw others fleeing. He decided to run towards her and, along with another man, managed to restrain her until the police arrived.

The police expressed gratitude to Muhammad for his bravery and even bought him a cappuccino as a token of appreciation.

Recognition and Gratitude

Originally from Aleppo, Muhammad has been living in Germany since 2022. His quick thinking and courageous actions have earned him the title of a hero in Hamburg.
