syria - A Syrian official claimed that the country's de facto leader, Ahmed Eshara, held positive talks with PKK/YPG delegates, with both sides agreeing to continue dialogue for the future.

In the midst of efforts to stabilize Syria after the overthrow of the Bashar Assad regime by groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), various delegations and representatives from domestic and international circles are engaging in talks in Damascus. According to an unnamed Syrian official speaking to the French News Agency (AFP), Eshara had 'positive' discussions with PKK/YPG delegates. The official added that the meeting was considered a 'preliminary gathering for future dialogue,' with both sides agreeing to further discussions. Eshara, in a recent statement to Al Arabiya Television over the weekend, emphasized the need for the integration of the PKK/YPG forces into the new Syrian military, stating, 'Weapons should only be in the hands of the state. We will welcome anyone armed and qualified to join the Ministry of Defense.'
