daraa - Syrian jihadists have reportedly captured the city of Daraa in the southern part of the country, following a deal with the army of President Bashar al-Assad.

Syrian jihadists have claimed to have captured the city of Daraa in the southern part of the country. According to sources, this came after a deal was struck with President Bashar al-Assad's army, allowing government troops to safely withdraw to the capital, Damascus.

Last Friday, Sunni rebels also took control of one of the key military bases in Daraa province. They are said to have secured at least two border crossings with Jordan.

The rebels, led by fighters from the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), launched a new offensive last week and have rapidly advanced. They have already captured the major cities of Aleppo and Hama, and are now at the gates of Homs.

The US State Department has urged civilians to leave Syria immediately while 'commercial options are still available' due to the ongoing conflict. The security situation in Syria remains unstable and unpredictable, with active clashes between armed groups across the country, according to the ministry. The Canadian government has also advised its citizens to leave Syria. In the Netherlands, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a similar call for Dutch nationals to depart the country.
