villach, austria - Syrian man hailed as hero after preventing a larger tragedy in Villach but mistaken for attacker by onlookers.

Syrian Man Prevents Tragedy in Villach

A 23-year-old Syrian man, Ahmad G., went on a stabbing spree in Villach over the weekend, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old boy. Alaaeddin Alhalabi, a food delivery driver, witnessed the attack and took immediate action by driving into G. to stop him.

Despite his heroic act, bystanders mistook Alhalabi for the attacker, causing panic and damage to his car. The police later praised Alhalabi for his bravery, acknowledging that his intervention prevented further casualties.

Alhalabi, a long-time resident of Villach, expressed disappointment that the terrorist act tarnished the reputation of other Syrians in the city, emphasizing that G. was an isolated extremist.

Meanwhile, Ahmad G., identified as an Islamist with ties to ISIS, was apprehended by Austrian authorities. The discovery of ISIS flags in his residence raised concerns, leading officials to announce a review of all Syrian and Afghan asylum seekers in the country, where over 100,000 Syrians currently reside.
