Swede (41) gets 10 years in prison for rape via Skype

uppsala - The court in Uppsala, Sweden, has sentenced a 41-year-old man to ten years in prison for online abuse of minors. The judge declared him guilty, among other things, of rape.

The man made contact with young girls from the United States, Canada and Scotland with his computer, the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported. The man forced them into sexual acts for a webcam and provided instructions in real time via Skype. According to the prosecutor, he threatened to put photos of the girls online, or kill or wound the girls or their families. In total, the police were able to identify 27 victims, of whom eighteen were younger than fifteen.

According to Swedish law, rape is not limited to physical contact between perpetrator and victim. The prosecution argued that the man in this case had gone further than in cases before which he was convicted in 2009.
