new york - Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the murder of insurance executive Brian Thompson, was not a customer of UnitedHealth, according to a company spokesperson.

Luigi Mangione (26) was accused of the murder of UnitedHealth's top executive Brian Thompson and was not a customer of the company, a spokesperson revealed. Mangione, who was charged on December 9 after a five-day manhunt, reportedly suffered from chronic back pain that impacted his daily life, as per friends and posts on social media. It remains unclear if his health played a role in the shooting.

The murder has shocked the sector, with American citizens pointing out their struggles with healthcare costs and the complexity of the system. Government officials and healthcare executives have expressed understanding for the frustrations but have recently been more vocal in their opposition to the suspect being glorified on social media as some sort of hero.

Police have determined that Mangione views the murder as a justified action against what he perceives as corruption in the healthcare industry, as reported by The New York Times.
