south korea - Support for President Yoon increases to 40% as he faces legal battles and potential impeachment in South Korea.

Legal Battle of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol

President Yoon Suk-yeol appeared before a judge in South Korea, accused of inciting an uprising, potentially facing death penalty despite it not being executed since 1997. His lawyer claims it's an illegal trial and demands his release.

Yoon, who declared a state of emergency to raise awareness about legislative dictatorship, refused to cooperate with the investigation, leading to his detention. The court is yet to decide on his release, with the next hearing scheduled for March 24.

Additionally, a Constitutional Court is examining whether Yoon should be impeached, potentially triggering new elections within 60 days if he is ousted. Surprisingly, Yoon's support has risen to 40%, attributed to conservative voters uniting against the opposition leader, Lee Jae-myung.

Yoon's consistent message of 'fighting till the end' has resonated with both supporters and opponents, unlike the silence of former President Park Geun-hye during her impeachment in 2017.
