dalian - A Chinese woman who underwent surgery had to pay extra in the middle of the operation to be helped further.
Twenty-year-old Jiang Meng underwent treatment in the harbor city of Dalian when the doctor said she had another medical problem that needed immediate treatment. That would cost her 240 euro extra, which she had to transfer directly via a mobile app.
The woman asked another doctor afterwards about the course of events, who said that the second operation had not been necessary at all. After they complained to the Chinese version of Twitter, Weibo, the authorities started an investigation.
The hospital where the operation took place reports that such mobile payments are made more often. 'A lot of unexpected things can happen during an operation and we can not have patients going back and forth in search of money,' a spokesman told the newspaper South China Morning Post.
