Stoplight in Tilburg longer on green with app

World May 10, 2017 16:00

tilburg - The municipality of Tilburg has launched a trial with an app that gives elderly and disabled people a longer time to cross. The traffic lights at a busy intersection in the city recognize the app's users and know how much time they need to cross. The light stays green for them.

The app on the mobile phone also works for blind and partially sighted people. When they come close, the ratchet fighter can be turned on, so that continuous noise can be reduced.

According to the municipality, this is the first test with a pedestrian crossing in the Netherlands. Tilburg announces that the initiative has been taken because there were regular complaints from people who had too little time to cross over safely. The trial lasts three months.
