Spanish Prime Minister Rajoy has to clear the field

madrid - The Spanish parliament Friday, as expected, premiered Mariano Rajoy by adopting a vote of no confidence with 180 to 169 votes and one abstention. The motion was put to the vote by the socialist party PSOE after executives of Rajoy \u0026 # x27; s People's Party (PP) were sentenced to long prison sentences for corruption.

When earlier this week it turned out that the small Basque National Party (PNV) are going to vote for the motion as well, the fate of Rajoy seemed already sealed. Rajoy has been in charge of Spain since 2011, and in recent years he did so with a minority government.

Rajoy is succeeded by the leader of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez. He will probably start working Monday and will present his cabinet next week.
